Learn How to Compare Air Purifier Selections

If you compare air purifier models against all of the possibilities which are available, you will have a much better chance of finding the model which is going to become a trusted part of your home. There are a wide range of purifiers on the market and many of these will perform purification in different ways.

If you expect to find a model which is going to easily integrate into your lifestyle and combat your particular problems, you will need to compare air purifier choices to find the best options which are going to present themselves.

Typically, air purifiers will be divided by the major distinctions which they offer in the ways that they clean your air. These methods are usually divided between:

  • HEPA or other cloth filters
  • Electrostatic or Ionic filtration
  • Ozone production or UV lights
  • Neutralizing gas cartridges
  • Odor control
  • Air freshening
Most air purifiers will typically give you multiple forms of this purification, helping you to more easily control the quality of your air.

However, in the major ways of fighting poor air quality, most air cleaners will only give one major method of control and you need to understand how to best fight each of these areas if you want to make your home a more comfortable and safe place.

Looking at the typical problems which can be found in the air will give you a better understanding of the type of technology that you need to fight these problems. The most common types of problems that you may need to fight could come in the form of:

  • Allergens, or dust, pollen, pet dander, cigarette smoke, or the like.
  • Troublesome odors that make your environment very uncomfortable.
  • Chemicals and trace gases in the air which can poison your lungs.
  • Germs, bacteria, viruses, and mold spores which can usually avoid being trapped.
  • Stale air that is harsh to breathe.
While some of these problems are much more common than others, you will be able to find all of these examples in homes and fighting their presence will help you have a safer environment.

In order to do this, however, you need to have the correct tools. Each of those tools can be found inside of different types of air purifiers, but knowing which technologies are best will be a huge advantage.

Lets Compare Air Purifier Technologies Used

Air purifier comparisons will force you to look closely at all of the different types of technology which have been developed toward cleaning the air.

Each of these methods will have their benefits and drawbacks and learning to distinguish between them will give you the best opportunity of finding the model which is going to work well in your home.

HEPA and Cloth Filters will be the most common type of purification available. These filters will be made of a cloth-like substance which has millions of fibers located inside. As air is forced to pass through these filters, all of the particles located inside will become trapped and the air coming out the other side will be cleaner.

HEPA rated filters are the absolute best that you could find, as they will consistently trap 99.7% of all particles in the air which are 0.3 microns or larger. Other filters will attempt to clean at this level but will often fall short.

The biggest draw back about HEPA and cloth filters is that they usually need to be replaced on a regular basis, which can be somewhat expensive, depending on the model of air purifier that you have.

Electrostatic and Ionic Purification uses the power of electrostatic energy to attract particles out of the air. The electrostatic method will place a charge on the fibers within the filter so that they will not only trap the particles in your air, but they will actively draw those particles in.

Ionic purification typically introduces a negative charge into the air, which will polarize the particles and attract them to collection plates. You can later wash these plates and reuse them.

This method requires a great deal of maintenance and it doesn't purify to the levels of a HEPA filter, but it will save you a great deal of money over time.

Ozone Production and UV Lights will work on eliminating germs, bacteria, viruses, and mold from the air. They will completely neutralize their power and eliminate the threats the germs post to your health, although too much exposure to ozone can be harmful to the health. If you are running an ozone purifier, you should only do so at short intervals on a periodic basis.

Gas Cartridges are used to help neutralize the presence of gas and chemicals in the air. While this is not a typically persistent problem in most homes, it can have a seriously detrimental effect on your health. To avoid this problem, use gas cartridges to clean your air and make it safe to breathe once more.

Activated Carbon and Charcoal Filters will work on reducing odors by breaking down the organic compounds in the air which cause them. They will then slowly be absorbed and this can help you with reducing the amount of odor in your air during each air change. You will quickly begin to notice a difference and this should help you with making a more comfortable environment.

Ion Generators can help freshen your air by introducing negative ions into it as it leaves the purifier. These negative ions will give your air a fresher feeling, helping you to enjoy air which isn't trapped and stale. It will give you a better sense of enjoyment and comfort within your enclosed home.

Putting It All Together - Comparing Air Purifiers

As you compare air purifier technology, you will begin to see which areas sound like they will be best for your home. You can then begin to look for the models which offer solutions to these problems and this will aid you with finding the best purifier possible.

After you purchase this, running the purifier in your home will quickly make a noticeable difference and you will be happy that you took the time for air purifier comparison.
