Oreck XL Professional Air Purifier, Model AIRPB

Friends presented me with an Oreck XL Professional Air Purifier, Model AIRPB as a gift for my birthday.

I have allergic asthma that causes some breathing problems, which may be exacerbated by the fact that I own two pug dogs whom I love and who shed a lot.

Before receiving the Oreck, I had to use two Sharper Image Ionic Breeze air purifiers, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. However, the Oreck suits my needs much better because it is flat and can be used unobtrusively on a table or bureau, whereas the other two had to be prominently placed in the room and they were not pretty! Although they did not have filters, but had metal rods that could be cleaned with a cloth, these rods had to be cleaned very often. Even then, they would constantly snap, crackle and pop or make a buzzing noise that was most annoying.

The Oreck XL has a removable filter, which collects dust, pollen, molds, fungi, smoke, and even viruses, in front of which is a removable filter that collects dust, hair and lint. Neither of these has to be replaced but can be cleaned with warm water and mild liquid detergent or Oreck’s own cleaner.

So far I’ve used the air purifier for weeks and I have yet to clean it. I know this because it is running quietly and the red light that warns when it needs cleaning is still not lit.

There are grills on top of the unit that direct the flow of air and a convenient night light, that can be turned on or off separately from the unit.

It has three different speeds, including a silence speed, which I use when I go to bed, as I keep the unit on my bedroom dresser. There is even a place for a scent cartridge to provide optional fragrance to the rooms. Although I have placed the unit in my bedroom, it is so efficient that it purifies the air in my entire small apartment, which consists of a large combination living room/den/kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.
