How to Choose the Best Home Air Purifier for Asthma & Allergy

A home air purifier could become important to you as you notice your allergies start to get aggravated.

You may also wish to have a type of air purifier into your home so that any time that you have guests with particular sensitivities, you may be able to help them out.

Figuring out which home air purifier is right for you, however, can be a bit more difficult. There are many different types of technology on the market and figuring out what will best help your needs will be a very important step.

The first thing that you should do when trying to figure out what the best home air purifier would be to figure out exactly what allergies you or your loved ones suffer from.

If you have a special sensitivity to pet dander, you are going to want to figure out how to get all of that dander out of your air. If your sensitivity is to mold or mildew, you are going to need a certain type of purification system. If you are particularly sensitive to airborne allergens that cause hay fever, like pollen or dust, you might need a special filter to combat those needs.

What Types of Problems Are Best Fought With What Technology?

If you want air purifier to help your allergies that are related to dust, hair, dander, or pollen, you are going to want to find an air purification technology which will help you with actually removing those particles from the air.

There are a few different types of an allergy relief air purifier that could help you with this problem and as you look through the different models, you should be able to determine their strengths and weaknesses.

Bar none, the best type of home air cleaner to help you with fighting the effects of airborne allergies would be a HEPA filter in an air purifier. There are many different specific types of technology out there which all make use of a HEPA filter, but the basic knowledge behind these filters is the same.

A HEPA filter is made up of millions of tiny fibers which the air will need to pass through on its way through the system. As the air flows through this filter, all of the dirt, particles, and contaminates in the air should be caught in the fibers.

You might not immediately think that this would be the most effective means of purification, but it can work to provide a great level of success. HEPA filters can guarantee that at least 99.7% of all of the contaminates in the air that are 0.3 microns or larger will be caught by one of their filters. As a point of reference, a single strand of hair is 100 microns thick.

Pre-filters are another common form of filter used to help combat the presence of dust, pollen, and other allergens in the air. Typically, a pre-filter is used to help capture the biggest particles in the air before it moves on toward another form of air purification.

They are not always the most effective at removing the biggest amount of particles from the air, but they can capture those largest particles well. Using only pre-filters on their own is not typically recommended.

Negative ions and plasma grids are another form of air filtration that is popular along with the Truman Cell technology that Oreck uses.

The idea behind these forms of purification are that by giving a positive charge to either the filter material or the particles in the air themselves, the smallest particles will be attracted to collect on the filters. This will help remove all of these particles from the air and give you air purification. They have a decent level of success, although are generally not considered as effective as the HEPA filters.

What Helps Remove Mold, Fungus, and Other Organic Allergens?

Many people will actually have a rather severe allergic reaction to mold, fungus, and other forms of bacteria. In these instances, you will want to find the best type of air purification system that will help you to kill these organic compounds in the air which might cause an allergic reaction. Sometimes these compounds can cause an asthma attack in a person and for this reason, you will want to have an asthma air purifier to help fight these attacks.

UV light is generally considered to be the strongest means possible to help you fight the organic compounds in the air which cause aggravation and problems with allergies. UV light will expose this air to light waves which work to break those compounds down and destroy them.

Plasma grids are also used frequently in conjunction with UV lights as they will help attract those smallest airborne allergens and destroy them.

Ceramic technology is often used along with TiO2 filter technology. Ceramic helps to generate a great deal of heat which is then used to purify the air by killing viruses and bacteria which might be in it. TiO2 technology will work to amplify the UV light being exposed to about 1000 times the intensity it was before. It can help to remove anything dangerous from the air.

How Do You Apply This To Finding an Air Purifier?

Once you've diagnosed exactly what types of allergies you are suffering from, you can use this knowledge to help you find the best home air purifier possible.

You will want something that can help you combat your allergies and asthma on a number of levels. Everything which works to stimulate these breathing problems should be treated with the whole house air purifier that you choose to invest in.

Many different house air purifiers will use a number of different technologies, from HEPA filters to UV technology. When you want to be protected in the highest number of areas, finding an air purifier which works to protect you in a variety of ways can be the smartest choice.

These air purifiers are often placed within a reasonable budget and they should not be a problem for anyone to invest in.

You are going to want to find a home air purifier that will work specifically for whatever you need.

If you know that your asthma is aggravated by only one specific thing, you may want to invest in a cheaper, more basic purifier. If you do not want to run the risk of aggravating it from a number of possibilities, you may wish to find a different model.

With enough research, however, you should easily be able to find the right home air purifier to match all of your needs.
