Reviewing Oreck Pure Air, the Oreck XL 8.5 Air Purifier

With an Oreck pure air, the Oreck XL 8.5 air purifier you can be assured that you are getting the height of air quality.

You won't have to worry about breathing in contaminates because this model uses 6 stages of filtration to remove all harmful elements from your air.

The Oreck Pure Air filtration system is a smart choice for anyone looking to make their home healthier and more comfortable to be in.

Pros of the Oreck XL 8.5 Air Purifier

  • Very energy efficient model, costs as much as a typical light bulb to continuously run.
  • Eliminates odors from pets and cigarette smoke as well as allergens and other toxic fumes from the air.
  • Truman Cell technology has a lifetime guarantee, stopping you from buying additional filters in the future!
  • Three different speed settings allow you to control the noise level and the energy consumption of the unit.

Cons of the Oreck XL 8.5 Air Purifier

  • Not all particles are consistently removed from the air, although you will notice a great improvement.
  • Higher speed settings produce more noise, which can be a major distraction.
  • Only runs enough to have 1 complete air change in a 600 sq. foot room per hour. Smaller rooms get more air changes, but not at a rate as good as other brands.

What does Oreck XL Air Purifier offer its Users?

  • Technology Used in Oreck Xl 8.5

  • Three different filters combine in this Oreck pure air model. Different forms of this technology will all combine to make sure that the air in your home is run through as many different types of filters as possible so that you can maximize the effects of this air purifier.

    Truman Cell Technology

The Oreck models all use a filter system called the Truman Cell, which actually uses electrostatic energy to give the particles in the air passing through it a positive charge. This charge will help to kill any of the allergens, viruses, bacteria, and germs floating through the air, helping you to remove any sickness which may be coming through.

Additionally, the Truman Cell will attract free-floating particles through the air, making the air itself cleaner and free from objects.

This is also a permanent filter system, meaning that if you take care of it, it should last you for a lifetime. Every few days, it should be cleaned, which requires only simple washing with soap and water. After letting it fully dry, which could take up to 24 hours, you simply re-insert the filter into the purifier and let it resume its cleaning.

    Odor Removal

Charcoal filters are another common type of filter that is used in Oreck models. This is the function which is designed to help remove odors from the air.

Once the air has been given an electrostatic charge by the Truman Cell, odor may still remain in the air. The charcoal, however, will absorb the gases in the air which give it that particular odor. After the air passes through these filters, it will come out smelling fresh and clean.

    Oxygenator System

The final step of the technology used comes with the oxygenator, a permanent part of this air purifier.

Since the Truman Cell can produce ozone as a by-product of giving the air a charge, the oxygenator will help to remove that ozone. Being exposed to ozone in heavy amounts can potentially cause some health problems, so converting that ozone back into oxygen can be an important step. This is what the oxygenator does. By introducing a negative charge into the air, it will help to combat the ozone and allow the air to return to a fresh oxygen state once more.

  • Performance of the Oreck Pure Air Purifier
  •   Typically, the purifier will perform one complete air change per hour in a room of 600 sq. feet. This should be considered to be a reasonable rate, although you could find air purifiers which perform at a higher rate of exchange. Smaller rooms will be exposed to a higher air exchange rate, which makes this a very useful purifier to have in a smaller space over a larger one.

  • Maintenance of the Purifier
  • The Truman Cell technology will alert you when it needs cleaned by a light on the console, which will typically happen every few days.

By washing it with soap and water, you will be able to clean it of all of the contaminates that it has attracted and help to push it back to a clean, unaltered state. While it can take nearly 24 hours to dry, you may wish to purchase an additional Truman Cell so that you do not have to have such this long of a waiting period before you can use your purifier again. An additional Truman Cell could cost you around $60.

The charcoal filters will generally need replaced around every 3 months. Buying a pack of these filters will run around $30 and they are important if you wish to make sure that you are always removing any unwanted odors and scents from the air.

The oxygenator is a permanent feature on the model and should not be removed, although you should take care to wipe the unit down, helping to remove any stray particles that it managed to attract. This should be done over the entire unit often.

  • Energy Use and Noise Levels of the Air Purifier
  • An Oreck pure air review should point out that this model, even on its highest speed, will consume less energy in an hour than a standard light bulb. Using it in lower settings will consume even less energy, making it a great choice for anyone who is trying to be more green in their lifestyle.

The lowest settings of this purifier are very quiet and will allow you to run the machine in your home with no distraction. Louder speeds can be quite noisy but will push more air through the room at one time.

  • Price and Warranty
  • You could typically find this model priced around $175, making it a very reasonable option for anyone who wants to keep the air in their home clean and free from allergens and particles but who doesn't want to spend a great deal of money. Only the charcoal filters will ever need replaced, giving you the chance to use this model far into the future.

  • Additional Features
    • The display features a night light, allowing you to change the settings on your machine without requiring you to turn on all of the lights in your home to do so.
    • Works well when placed on the floor or on a table.
The Oreck pure air filtration system of the Oreck XL 8.5 air purifier gives you the ability to clean the air in your home at a very reasonable price.

While it cannot remove all particles from the air, very few models of air purifiers will be able to. With only one feature that will ever need replaced (assuming the machine is properly cared for), you could use this Oreck pure air purifier long into your future!
